From Behind Curtain 3, we are excited to announce that Alma Hotchkin has commenced her challenge and will create 30 artworks in 30 days. Alma describes her challenge:
In participating with the 30x30x30 project, my first aim is to look more broadly at all subjects and depict my overall reaction with a greater simplicity. I will consider the importance of one different aspect alone at a time, for example, image restriction or expansion off the canvas for one day, then the next day light against dark, the next day strong edge compared to lost edge, then variation in colour, and so on. Because of my interest in the intricate details in nature, close study has caused my artwork to be overly involved with realistic drawing, and spontaneous joy is defused. My aim is for a more abstracted image of a familiar subject as a starting point, plus use of imaginative colour. I believe learning is never complete – your challenge is the stimulant for new development. The time frame adds the discipline we often lack and I thank you for the opportunity to be involved in it.
